The Reef Chain core team is thrilled to announce the launch of Reef Chain Wallet for iOS and iPadOS! It’s available now in the App Stores for every class of Apple mobile device.
Reef Chain Wallet is the premiere way to experience Reef Chain, and has launched today for Apple mobile devices. Throughout this process the app’s code has been enhanced multiple times, resulting in a far more stable experience than when we first began this journey in Winter 2024.
At launch, the iOS and iPadOS version of Reef Chain Wallet wallet has a slimmed down set of features:
Password and biometric (TouchID and FaceID) enabled security
Token Management: Store, send, and receive any tokens on Reef Chain
NFT Support: View NFTs through a user-friendly interface
WalletConnect: Connect to decentralized apps (dApps) on your desktop or laptop using the popular WalletConnect protocol from ReOwn
Reef Chain Wallet is a self-custodial wallet, ensuring you users have full control over their digital assets, with a secure and intuitive experience, and it’s available right now.
“Honestly, this was a bit of a slog,” said Derek E. Silva, Chief Operating Officer for Reef. He added, “Apple’s legal, customer service, and marketing asset requirements are far more stringent than Google’s. At times it was maddening, but in the end we did end up with a better app and customer experience. Now we can start really moving the needle forward by completely re-thinking the user onboarding experience, and making the app more fun to use.”
The most important thing for us was to make Reef Chain Wallet available as quickly as possible on Apple mobile devices, especially iPhones. Now that the app is available, we embark on the next phases.
We recently had a comprehensive code quality review completed on Reef Chain Wallet. Among the issues identified were race conditions on startup, memory leaks, error recovery during transaction signing, and other quality-of-life improvements that can be made. Our mobile developer is working through these issues now, improving the security and performance of Reef Chain Wallet across several dimensions.
The roadmap for Reef Chain Wallet will introduce some significant changes and enhancements over the next few months, including:
Adding swapping in the Apple ecosystem version
Enabling NFT sending in the Apple ecosystem version
An end-to-end improvement of the code, as identified above
Adding an in-app browser
Adding native staking capabilities
Improving WalletConnect integration
A full UI redesign
A new onboarding process, including integration of Mr.Dapps’ Reef Name Service
And more!
At this time we would also like to re-introduce you to Reef Docs. It now features a live chat feature for people who need technical support, and new pages about Reef Chain Wallet specifically. We hope this will improve the customer support experience, especially for people who don’t use apps like Telegram or Discord, and give us more opportunities to continue expanding on this central repository of Reef Chain knowledge.
And finally, we’re taking your Reef Chain Wallet feedback through a new form that will make it easier for us to collect your thoughts on what’s working well, what’s not, and what features you would like to see next. Please take a few moments to fill it out if you have feedback or ideas to share!
